Unintended Consequences: Beetles Ravage Protected Forest | Finch Paper, LLC
This is a fantastic post about why it’s not always a good thing to try to “protect” our amazing forests in the way that makes sense to us. Simply closing up a forest to logging and leaving it “as-is” may actually make it much worse. This example deals with an aging forest that is being ravaged by the pine beetles. The massive forest fires in Arizona are another example of this. If the timber in a forest is responsibly harvested, it creates jobs, wood products, and a healthier forest.
